Lisa Fitzgibbon at the Solent Inn
-WightVibe

“I am just the writer, the commentator, butt naked as the day that I began to crawl”

In my last review of Lisa Fitzgibbon I intro’d with a line from one of her songs – but you just have to…descriptive and familiar, she’s a kindred spirit to those who hear her, and becomes a friend when the doors open and she lets you in with her big smile and mad laugh.

Not an Islander (she’s Australian and lives in London) Lisa has taken on honorary Caulkhead status through her band of dedicated followers who you will see at many of her live shows all over the Island. Just as spunky with a bit of cheek and a whole lot of personality, she once again packed the tiny Solent Inn in Ryde where people were sitting on the floor at her feet to hear her play - Class!

A set full of powerful heart wrenching songs, there is space in your lives for this kind of music - like ‘Maize’ which Lisa says is all about “going around in circles and getting nowhere” and ‘Who am I’ which, we’re told was written after a particularly bad nightmare. She has an uncanny ability to get into peoples minds with a line she has written, and to touch your most hidden emotions when she sings it. Those emotions that we all feel, but rarely talk about, out of fear or shame, or whatever…she just has that knack of just making you feel.

Lisa gave up full-time work last year to become a professional ‘Power Folkstress’ and so she should! She has four albums under her belt, including the acoustic ‘Song Book 14’ and ‘Just Below the Surface’ all fired up with her Power Folk Quartet. Lisa plans to return to the Island in August and hit the Cowes Week audience.
